Floats!

Well, the masks are almost done, just a few more beads and feathers needed here and there. So, today we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and held a team hybrid race chalk drawing olympics. Once everyone was worn out we settled down back inside and started sketching ideas for the parade krewe floats.

More Masks!!!!

Since we have neglected our outdoor time lately we decided to start the class in the wonderful sun. Unfortunately it was windy AND cold so we headed back indoors. Outside Fail. Hopefully it will be warmer on Wednesday.

Back to the masks we went! Just when you thought we couldn't add any more glitter to our lovely masks....WE DID!!!! These sparkling pieces of work are AMAZING!!!

OMG Glitter!

So much glitter! And feathers! I think Hailey may have turned into a peacock. With the swing music and masks everyone has been so engrossed in their projects that we've totally forgotten to play ships and sailors; we'll have to get back to playing games next week.

Krewe Masks

Today we started working on Masks for our parade using Krewe colors. Each Krewe also decided on a motto. The Phoenixes have "We fly high" and the Cardinals are "We stick together." Team Sparky is still working on theirs...

Krewes!

Krewes are organizations or groups that put on parades during Carnival season. In the spirit of Mardi Gras we divided our fabulous group into three krewes. Each krewe had to come up with a name, a mascot, and pick three colors that represented their krewe. Our krewes are: The Phoenixes, The Cardinals, and The Sparkies.

Check out the Cardinals drawing their mascot:

Fundreds!

Today we did two great community projects with our Moya ArtSpace students. The first was Mel Chin's Fundred project. Mr. Matthew gave a presentation on how Mel Chin found out about the pre-existing led problem in soil of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Then all students got their own Fundred to color and draw on to help raise money to remove the led from the dirt. You can make a Fundred to! Just visit the website and print out a template. But hurry, the Fundred truck is coming to collect all of Arizona's Fundreds on 25 February 2010 at the ASU Art Museum.

Students also did small drawings for the Tempe 4"x4" Express yourself in this space art show. Just think, 9 years old and already getting work in a gallery!

Picture Parade!

After a super fun round of The Big Wind Blows we took a trip down the hallway to hang up our AWESOME parade pics for the whole school to see!

Everyone had a chance to describe their picture and we all agreed that our picture parade ROCKED!
